Trips and Extra-Curricular Activities

Year 1

Brooklands Museum

Year 1 had an exhilarating trip to Brooklands Museum, the pupils focused on, “How cars have changed our lives”. They enjoyed making their own peg racers, zooming them around and racing them down a ramp. The museum was like a magical time machine filled with really old cars that taught the pupils how people used to get around. They giggled with excitement as they climbed aboard different buses from long ago, imagining what it would be like to ride them through the city streets. The children felt that the most exciting part was a Lego car made from 2,800 Lego blocks – "it is awesome," commented several of the pupils.

Before the end of the trip, the pupils also got to sit in a real formula 1 racing car. It inspired the children to think about what it would be like to be a racing car driver.

It was a great experience for our pupils enjoying how cars have changed over time

Year 2

Roald Dahl Day:
Year 2 had an amazing day on Monday celebrating Roald Dahl’s birthday. Our classrooms were turned into Willy Wonka’s laboratory. We made some chocolatey treats and some fascinating lava lamps…some of these even turned into lava explosions (something the teachers were not quite expecting!) They then created Revolting Recipes for George’s Marvellous Medicine, where they enjoyed exploring different textures whilst getting rather mucky!

All the children looked fantastic in their costumes, which really helped them get into character during our workshop. The children were transformed into one of Roald Dahl’s characters and got to explore ‘Dream Country’. They wowed us with their creativity and acting skills.

Windsor Castle:
Year 2 went on a trip to Windsor Castle. This half term, the children will be learning about ‘Towers, Turrets and Tunnels’ as part of their topic work and they had a great time seeing real life examples of royal buildings and learning about different castles. They had a workshop about the history of castles and even got to dress in armour and re-enact a battle.

Local Area Walk:
For the Year 2 topic ‘Street Detectives’ the children went on a walk around the local area looking at the different types of houses. The children use maps to navigate around the area looking at the different features.
