Home-learning

At Springfield, we feel children learn best through positive home school partnership and in this parents and the wider community play an active role in all aspects of pupil development. The below suggests how you can best support your child at home.

Home Learning at Springfield Primary School – Year 5
Reading: Children should read for at least 20 minutes on each occasion they read. Discussing with your child what they have read is really important in developing their reading ability. In Upper KS2, children can complete their own reading diaries. All reading diaries should be handed in on a Friday to an adult in the classroom. Children will be entered into a reading raffle if they have read four times in one week.
Spellings: Children will be tested weekly on age related spellings. A spelling sheet will be provided, where children will need to look, copy, write, check their words three times and then put their words into sentences. Please note that your child’s spelling test scores will be written on their homework sheet every week.
Times Tables: Children will be tested on their times tables; please encourage your child to use Times Tables Rock Stars or the times table grids which will be sent home (please encourage your child to ask their teacher for more of these should they want them) to support with these skills.
Topic: Children will receive Pick ’N’ Mix activities which are linked to our Cornerstones Curriculum and they include a range of activities from art and design, cooking, researching, building, writing and maths. As we recognise how time consuming some of these activities can be, we have specified that this home learning is optional.
