GLF Schools

Music

At Springfield, the intention is that children gain an understanding of how to listen and appreciate; play and sing; and compose across a variety of historical periods, genres and traditions.

Music lessons ensure that children are engaged and inspired to develop a love of music and their talent as young musicians. We expose children to appropriate musical terms, and encourage children to use these within their rich discussions about a range of pieces of music as well as when they compose their own pieces.

All children take part in whole class instrument studies and learn to play the ocarina, the glockenspiel and the ukulele. Children also explore a range of tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments. We understand the value of children learning through hands on experiences and exploration, and teach children to compose and record their own pieces using graphic scores from as young as the early years. As children progress, they are introduced to formal music notation and learn the basics of reading music.

Children gain a sence of excitement and love for the subject when having lessons in the music room, a weekly club after school fosters this passion, giving children further opportunities to improve their skills when playing musical instruments.

Music Room

We understand the role music can play with improving children’s health and wellbeing, as well as building skills such as self-confidence, social interaction, creativity and a sense of achievement. During their time in key stage 2, children are given the opportunities to build on their love of music through attending choir and music club.

Music

Children have the opportunity to perform regularly through performances in school and in the local community as well having the opportunity to take part in the Young Voices concert.
