Physical Education

At Springfield Primary School we promote active lifestyles, which improves pupil’s self-esteem and confidence, sleeping patterns, cognitive ability, cardiovascular fitness and stamina, communication skills, immune system and resilience as well as reducing anxiety, stress, obesity, depression and tension.

Get Set 4 PE, our curriculum, offers dynamic, engaging lessons where clear progression is seamlessly built into every unit. The units are underpinned by fundamental movement skills with a strong focus on holistic development ensuring pupils continually build confidence, competence and understanding across a range of activities. The Get Set 4 PE curriculum is carefully mapped to the Early Years Statutory Framework and the KS1 and KS2 National Curriculum requirements, guaranteeing full coverage and revisiting essential skills with increasing challenge as children advance through the school.

Our extensive and well maintained grounds enable a wide variety of sports to be played with a vast amount of extra-curricular clubs available to all pupils. The P.E. curriculum provides pupils with the opportunity to develop their skills, understanding and interest in a range of sporting experiences.

At the heart of our philosophy is the desire to provide each of our pupils with the opportunity to access high quality physical education in our high-quality and friendly community. We firmly believe that learning extends beyond the classroom and everyone is encouraged to participate to develop their skills and also to understand the importance of an active healthy lifestyle and the value of working as part of a team.

All pupils participate in a minimum of 2 hours a week of physical education. All pupils take part in a series of inter-house competitions, have the opportunity to attend Guga-Fit (run at lunchtimes by our sports leaders) and are taught exceptional P.E. lessons. Pupils also compete in a range of Borough competitions and festivals as well as local fixtures during the academic year.
