Staff Training

Springfield Primary School and Nursery in Sunbury-on-Thames emphasises comprehensive staff training, particularly focusing on safeguarding, inclusion, and specialised pedagogical skills to support education.

Key aspects of staff training at Springfield include:

  • Annual Safeguarding Training: All staff, receive annual training in safeguarding, regardless of their role within the school,  covering "Keeping Children Safe in Education" (KCSIE) guidance, the Prevent Strategy, FGM, and Child Sexual Exploitation. At Springfield Primary School, safeguarding is a top priority, and all staff receive ongoing professional training to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every pupil. This includes regular updates on child protection, recognising signs of abuse or neglect, and understanding statutory safeguarding procedures. By maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills, staff are able to respond effectively to concerns, promote a safe school environment, and ensure that pupils feel supported and protected at all times.
  • Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND): All staff at Springfield are considered teachers of SEND, with staff trained to deliver adaptive teaching, evidence-based interventions, and scaffolding to meet diverse learning needs. Staff at Springfield School have undertaken professional development through the Surrey PINS (Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools) project. This training equips teaching and support staff with evidence-based strategies to support children with a range of neurodiverse needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and dyspraxia. By embedding these approaches across the school, Springfield ensures an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all pupils can access the curriculum, engage effectively, and achieve their full potential.
  • Behavior Management: At Springfield Primary School, behaviour management is supported through comprehensive training for key staff. Select members of the team have completed Positively-Touched training, while other staff have received professional instruction in Team Teach techniques. This ensures that all staff are equipped with consistent, safe, and effective strategies to support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development, promoting a positive learning environment across the school.
  • Curriculum Development: At Springfield Primary School, staff training is closely aligned with the curriculum to ensure high-quality teaching and learning across all subjects. Teachers and support staff have received professional development in Read Write Inc. phonics, the Essential Writing Curriculum, and the White Rose Maths Hub. This targeted training equips staff with evidence-based strategies to teach reading, writing, and mathematics effectively, enabling all pupils to develop strong foundational skills, make sustained progress, and achieve their full potential.
