EYFS - Nursery and Reception
Springfield’s Early Years Vision:
In the Early Years at Springfield Primary School, we believe in providing children from age two to five years with a safe and engaging environment where they have an opportunity to grow, learn and flourish in all areas of the Foundation Stage. This builds on each individual's wants, needs and interests and helps them achieve targeted next steps. These small, manageable targets are achieved in a context that is relevant to them as unique individuals who learn in different ways and at different rates.
Learning should be fun and we strongly believe in providing quality, meaningful and enriched opportunities across the provision. We value the important role of both the indoor and outdoor environments in developing children’s thinking and resilience skills as well as meeting all Characteristics of Effective Learning. We are committed to giving our children the best possible start to their school life through teaching them the skills and knowledge which will ensure that they become successful, confident, lifelong learners.
My dauWe are delighted to introduce our brand-new EYFS Garden — a captivating outdoor learning space designed to ignite imagination, curiosity, and joy in our youngest learners. This thoughtfully crafted environment offers a rich tapestry of play-based experiences that support every area of early development.
From the moment children step into the garden, they’re invited to explore, experiment, and express themselves. Whether they’re racing along the bike and trike road, building towers in the construction zone, or performing on the stage, every activity is an opportunity to learn through play.

Why Outdoor Learning Matters

Build resilience and independence through self-directed play
Strengthen physical skills in open, active spaces
Develop language and social skills through collaborative exploration
Connect with nature, sparking curiosity and environmental awareness
