What does SEND mean?

At Springfield Primary School, we believe that all our teachers are teachers of children with special educational needs.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) refers to the support required by children and young people who have learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn compared to others of the same age. This can include challenges in areas such as communication, behavior, physical or sensory needs, and emotional development. The goal of identifying and supporting SEND is to ensure that every child has access to an inclusive and fair education that meets their individual needs. Schools and educational settings work with parents, carers, and specialists to create tailored support plans, helping these students reach their full potential. Recognising SEND is essential for promoting equality, inclusion, and personal growth within the education system.

It is not unusual for any child to receive additional support in their learning and the support we offer is carried out in a caring and supportive way. We monitor a child’s progress carefully and ensure that all relevant adults are involved in the education plan.

Miss Kirsty Seagrove is the school Inclusion Leader and Assistant Head. She is responsible for the overall co-ordination of our SEND provision and can be contacted via kirsty.seagrove@springfield.surrey.sch.uk Please contact the school office if you would like to make an appointment with Miss Seagrove.
