Physical Education

At Springfield Primary School we promote active lifestyles, which improves pupil’s self-esteem and confidence, sleeping patterns, cognitive ability, cardiovascular fitness and stamina, communication skills, immune system and resilience as well as reducing anxiety, stress, obesity, depression and tension.

Our extensive and well maintained grounds enable a wide variety of sports to be played with a vast amount of extra-curricular clubs available to all pupils. The P.E. curriculum provides pupils with the opportunity to develop their skills, understanding and interest in a range of sporting experiences.

The department lead, Miss Billock specialises in many areas and is also supported by a number of specialist sports coaches who come in to deliver extra-curricular clubs before, during and after school. This wealth of experience allows pupils to have the opportunities to compete at house, district, county and regional events.

We also offer our older pupils a chance to experience leadership opportunities and we have a legacy of exceptional sports captains who assist the department with the mentoring of younger pupils, providing sporting role models.

At the heart of our philosophy is the desire to provide each of our pupils with the opportunity to access high quality physical education in our high-quality and friendly community. We firmly believe that learning extends beyond the classroom and everyone is encouraged to participate to develop their skills and also to understand the importance of an active healthy lifestyle and the value of working as part of a team.

All pupils participate in a minimum of 2 hours a week of physical education.
